1767
The blacksmith craft has likely existed in Grønning for centuries. The earliest documented smithy in the town dates back to 1767. The village blacksmith played a central role in the rural community of that time. As a versatile craftsman, he mastered a wide range of tasks – everything from tooth extraction to forging iron for both large and small tools that were essential for farm operations and daily household chores. The image is from around 1910 before the building was demolished.
1890
The Grønning blacksmith was established at its current location in the 1890s, where the business continues to operate to this day.
1944
In 1944, Chr. Dyhrberg took over the blacksmith and expanded the business with machinery sales and thereby founded Grønning Smede- & Maskinforretning as we know it today.
1948-52

1985
Peter Dam took over Grønning Smede- & Maskinforretning in 1985 and ran the business with a single skilled worker. At this time, the focus was primarily on the blacksmith business and plumbing services.
1992
The workshop was expanded with an additional hall for tractor repairs.
1998
The accompanying house was demolished, and a new extension with an office, break room, and changing facilities was built directly connected to the existing workshop buildings.
2005
Peter Dam entered a partnership with Peter Mejlhede in 2005, who was tasked with developing agricultural sales. The company grew to six specialized employees focusing on
agricultural machinery from brands such as Deutz-Fahr and Lemken. Peter Mejlhede took over the entire business in October 2008, while Peter Dam retained ownership of the buildings and continued with the plumbing department, which later became Dam & Hovgaard.
2014
Grønning Smede- & Maskinforretning became a dealer of Massey Ferguson tractors and Krone machinery.
2015
I-GRIND was designed, and production of the first I-GRIND began in the USA. The first I-GRIND arrived in Grønning in 2016.
2018
Peter Mejlhede sold half of the company to Claus Marcussen as part of a planned generational transition. With this arrangement, Claus Marcussen took over full responsibility for the workshop and service areas.
2020
Agrimagnet was launched as an innovative solution to a critical issue in livestock farming. Developed to protect both animals and business operations, Agrimagnet effectively prevents metal contamination in feed mixers. The system features specially designed magnets that mount directly to the mixer auger, capturing metal foreign objects before they can reach the animals. Designed with versatility in mind, Agrimagnet fits directly into existing bolt holes in many popular mixer brands
2021
A new generation of I-GRIND HD was launched. Production was relocated from the USA to Grønning, where it continues to be manufactured today.
2023
At the turn of the year, Claus Marcussen took over Grønning Smede- & Maskinforretning.

With a goal of increased efficiency, Claus Marcussen chose to make Joakim Hornemann his partner in Grønning Smede- & Maskinforretning. The new partnership focuses on optimizing business operations through stronger collaboration with the staff.

The Sallingland Rake was developed based on the premise of creating a product that was both locally produced and made from durable, high-quality materials. It was designed to be adaptable to different needs and adjustable later if customer requirements changed. Most importantly, the rake was constructed to be easy to ship and assemble for the end customer, resulting in a durable and flexible yard rake that combined quality with practical functionality.
2024
What started as a simple drawing quickly developed into a convincing concept. The quality and innovation in the design were so evident that a local farmer chose to order two Crop Rollers even before they were produced. This early trust confirmed the product's potential and formed the basis for further development.
2025
2025 marks a decisive turning point, where Grønning Smede- & Maskinforretning is transformed into a prominent brand under the new umbrella byGronning, along with the house's other innovative brands I-GRIND, Agrimagnet, Crop Roller, and Sallingland. Under this umbrella, over 250 years of local blacksmith craftsmanship is brought into a global future, where international customers and local roots go hand in hand.
2025
The online shop Sallingland.dk was launched with an assortment of approximately 100,000 items, bringing together products for both agricultural and private customers under one roof. Sallingland.dk aims to make everyday life easier for busy farmers by providing the opportunity to gather all necessary purchases in one place. This saves both time and hassle for customers, who can now find everything they might need on a single platform.
